About Neighborhood Radios
Neighborhood Radios is a grassroots, community-driven initiative that believes every neighborhood deserves to feel safe, connected, and prepared. Our goal is simple: to inspire and empower people across the nation to use FRS (Family Radio Service) radios as a tool for local communication, safety, and support—no licenses, no subscriptions, no infrastructure required.
We’re not a business.
We don’t sell radios.
We don’t push a brand.
We’re just people helping people—one channel at a time.
Why FRS Radios?
In a world of uncertainty—rising crime, job losses, economic instability, and technological disruptions—community matters more than ever. But in many places, neighbors don’t even know each other’s names.
FRS radios change that.
They’re easy to use, affordable, and require no technical knowledge or license. With just the push of a button, you can:
Check in on a neighbor during a power outage
Alert others about suspicious activity
Help someone in an emergency
Coordinate local events or block watch groups
Or just offer a friendly “hello” on a quiet morning
Think of it like the neighborhood version of what truckers have done for decades with CB radios—but tailored for everyday people.
Our Story
Neighborhood Radios was founded by Eduardo “Ed” Silva, an engineer, community advocate, and lifelong learner. The idea came to him one day while driving on the freeway and spotting a car with a dangerously flat tire. He wished he had a way to instantly alert the driver—and thought: What if everyone carried a radio?
From that spark, Ed envisioned something much bigger: a nationwide, decentralized network of neighbors using simple tools to look out for one another. Inspired by the challenges we all face—technological disruption, economic shifts, rising uncertainty—he decided to act.
Rather than create a commercial venture, Ed launched Neighborhood Radios as a not-for-profit project, open to all. We welcome support through optional affiliate links, but also provide non-affiliate options—because your trust matters more than profit.
